Perfunctory tasks were diverting the office manager’s time away from critical mission efforts. In addition, organizational procedures for such tasks were undocumented. My ID team determined that one of these tasks-setting up computer accounts for new employees-could be done instead by a volunteer but training support would be necessary. Though I collaborated with the team on all aspects of the projects, my major role was lead author of task analysis. From my analysis, we developed a step-by-step setup guide that any volunteer can use to set up new computer accounts. We also designed a mini-training with a coaching checklist intended to support the volunteer through the first-use experience.
